Through this project, the Centre for School Mental Health is working in close partnership with Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation in Alberta to create and implement a culturally-adapted and community-relevant version of the Healthy Relationships Program – Enhanced (HRPE). CSMH project manager, a team of Elders and community knowledge holders, a community-based project lead and an Indigenous educator are strengthening and enhancing the HRPE program with traditional Nakota teachings of wellbeing. The project is designed to provide support strategies that will address and mitigate the impacts of health inequities with First Nations youth of Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation, that were amplified during the COVID-19 pandemic. The community lead is currently piloting an enhanced version of HRPE with Grade 10 Alexis youth in the school setting.
