Fifteen graduate students attend Supporting Transition Resilience of Newcomer Groups (STRONG) training in November.

On November 27-28, 2023, the Centre for School Mental Health (CSMH) successfully hosted a two-day STRONG training for psychology graduate students from Faculty of Education’s School and Applied Child Psychology program. ‘STRONG,’ short for Supporting Transition Resilience of Newcomer Groups, is a Tier-2 mental health intervention aiming to bolster the coping and resilience skills of newcomer children and youth.

Dr. Maisha Syeda facilitated the training with 15 graduate students, at the master’s and PhD level. The Mary J. Wright Child and Youth Development (MJW-CYDC) is recruiting newcomer children and youth to participate in an upcoming STRONG group in January 2024. Under the supervision Dr. Amanda Kerry, a clinical and forensic psychologist, the trained graduate psychology students will now serve as STRONG facilitators and provide mental health support to newcomer children and youth in London. For more information about the upcoming STRONG group, please refer to the recruitment poster.

If you know any newcomer child/youth who might benefit from STRONG at MJW-CYDC, you can refer them through the following link: https://uwo.eu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_3NIivJjXL027KHc
